Day 1: Canggu Highlights
Surf Lesson & Beach Breakfast
Start the day with an early surf lesson at Batu Bolong Beach, Canggu's most popular break for beginners. The consistent whitewater rolls and sandy bottom make it ideal for first-timers, with dozens of surf schools offering 90-minute lessons including board rental. After surfing, dry off at one of the beachside cafes — Canggu's breakfast scene is legendary, with acai bowls, avocado toast, smoothie bowls, and strong Bali coffee served with ocean views.
Rice Paddy Walk & Tanah Lot Temple
Rent a scooter and ride through the rice paddies that still thread through Canggu's development — the Pererenan and Canggu Shortcut roads pass through lush green terraces that feel worlds away from the beach strip. Continue west to Tanah Lot Temple (30 minutes), one of Bali's most iconic sea temples perched on a rocky outcrop surrounded by crashing waves. The temple is a major Balinese Hindu pilgrimage site and photogenic from every angle.
Echo Beach Sunset & Dinner
Return to Canggu for sunset at Echo Beach, where the surfers catch their last waves as the sun drops into the Indian Ocean. The beach bars along the sand fill with people watching the golden-hour show. After sunset, eat at one of Canggu's excellent restaurants — the area has everything from 20,000 IDR nasi goreng at a local warung to innovative international cuisine. The Batu Bolong strip buzzes with nightlife after dark.
