Full Moon Party 3-day itinerary

Thailand

Day 1: Pre-Party Beach Day — Koh Phangan Explored

🌅
Morning

Bottle Beach — Hidden Paradise

Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat) on the north coast of Koh Phangan is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Gulf of Thailand — accessible only by longtail boat from Chaloklum village (150–200 THB, 15 minutes) or a steep jungle hike. The beach is a crescent of soft white sand backed by jungle with just a handful of bungalow operations. Snorkelling off the rocks at the eastern end reveals coral and tropical fish. Arrive early to grab a prime spot before the day-trippers show up around 11am.

Tip: The longtail boats from Chaloklum leave when they have enough passengers — go before 10am for the most reliable departures. Bring water and snacks as the beach restaurants charge tourist prices.
☀️
Afternoon

Than Sadet Waterfall & Island Viewpoints

Than Sadet waterfall in the northeast of Koh Phangan is a series of cascading pools carved into granite boulders — a favourite of the Thai royal family, whose initials are carved into the rocks. The main falls are a 15-minute walk from the road. After the waterfall, rent a scooter (200–300 THB/day) and ride to Amstel Viewpoint or the Domesila Viewpoint for panoramic views across the island and out to Koh Samui and Ang Thong Marine Park. The roads are steep and winding — ride carefully.

Tip: The waterfalls flow best after rain — in dry season (Feb–Apr) they can be reduced to a trickle. Check recent conditions before making the trip.
🌙
Evening

Thong Sala Night Market & Early Night

Thong Sala, the main town and ferry port, hosts a walking street night market on Saturday evenings with grilled seafood, pad thai, rotis, and fresh coconut ice cream — all under 100 THB. Even on non-Saturday nights the Pantip food market near the pier is excellent and cheap. This is your last proper meal before the party tomorrow — eat well, hydrate, and get an early night. Your body will thank you at 4am on the beach.

Tip: Buy your party supplies tonight — neon paint, glow sticks, and a waterproof phone pouch are all cheaper in Thong Sala than on Haad Rin where prices double on party day.

Day 2: Full Moon Party Night — Haad Rin Beach

🌅
Morning

Sleep In & Haad Rin Arrival

Sleep in and recharge — the night ahead is long. If you are staying outside Haad Rin, catch a songthaew (shared taxi truck, 100–200 THB) to the peninsula in the early afternoon. Haad Rin has two beaches — Haad Rin Nok (Sunrise Beach) is where the party happens, while Haad Rin Nai (Sunset Beach) is quieter for swimming and relaxing during the day. Grab lunch at one of the restaurants on the main strip and explore the party zone before it fills up.

Tip: If you are not staying in Haad Rin, confirm your return transport in advance. Songthaews run all night during Full Moon but prices triple after midnight — negotiate before you get in.
☀️
Afternoon

Body Paint, Pre-Drinks & Beach Bars

The pre-party ritual starts around 4pm. Body paint artists set up along Haad Rin's main street — full-body UV designs run 200–500 THB depending on complexity. Most hostels and guesthouses throw pre-party events with cheap buckets and music from 5pm. The beach bars — Cactus, Drop In, Mellow Mountain — start their sound systems and the energy builds through sunset. A bucket of Thai whiskey with Red Bull and Coke costs 200–300 THB and is the standard party fuel.

Tip: Pace yourself on the buckets — they are stronger than they taste. Alternate alcoholic drinks with water bottles (20 THB from beach vendors) throughout the night.
🌙
Evening

The Main Event — Midnight to Sunrise

By 10pm Haad Rin Beach transforms into the largest beach party in the world. Different stretches of the 700m beach blast different genres — techno, trance, drum and bass, reggae, and Thai pop. Fire show performers work the crowd with flaming jump ropes and fire poi. The energy peaks between midnight and 3am. As dawn approaches, the crowd migrates to the rocks at the southern end of the beach for the iconic Full Moon sunrise. It is loud, chaotic, sweaty, sandy, and unforgettable.

Tip: Wear closed shoes you do not mind getting ruined — the sand is littered with broken glass and spilled drinks. Reef shoes or old trainers work perfectly.

Day 3: Recovery Day — Slow Down & Recharge

🌅
Morning

Late Start & Recovery Brunch

You will not be waking up early today. Most of Haad Rin sleeps until noon after the Full Moon Party. When you surface, head to one of the brunch spots on the main strip for a recovery meal — big Western breakfasts, fresh fruit smoothies, and strong coffee. Rehydrate aggressively with water and coconut water (30–50 THB from any shop). If you can manage it, a dip in the sea at the quieter Haad Rin Nai beach will help revive you.

Tip: Check your body for cuts and scrapes from the beach — clean any wounds with antiseptic. Minor foot cuts from glass are extremely common. Pharmacies on the main strip sell antiseptic and plasters.
☀️
Afternoon

Srithanu or Zen Beach — Chill Side of the Island

If you have energy, escape Haad Rin and head to the west coast. Srithanu is Koh Phangan's wellness village — yoga studios, vegan cafes, and crystal shops line the quiet road behind the beach. Zen Beach, just south, is a beautiful sandy cove perfect for a quiet swim. A Thai massage on the beach (300–400 THB for an hour) is the perfect antidote to a night of dancing on sand. Songthaews from Haad Rin to Srithanu cost around 200 THB.

Tip: The west coast sunset from Srithanu is spectacular — if you time your visit right, you can watch the sun drop into the sea from one of the beach bars.
🌙
Evening

Final Dinner & Departure Planning

Wrap up your Koh Phangan trip with dinner at a beachfront restaurant — grilled fish, green curry, and a cold Singha beer while watching the last sunset. If you are heading to Koh Tao, Koh Samui, or the mainland, book your ferry ticket at any travel agent on the island or online through Lomprayah or Raja Ferry. Morning ferries depart from Thong Sala pier, with connections to all major Gulf of Thailand destinations.

Tip: Book your ferry the day before departure in peak season (Dec–Mar) — boats sell out and you do not want to be stranded. The Lomprayah high-speed catamaran is the most reliable service.
