Day 1: Full Moon Party — Haad Rin Beach
Pre-Party Prep & Beach Day
Spend the day at Haad Rin Beach soaking up the sun before the main event. The beach fills with backpackers from late morning — grab a spot, swim in the warm Gulf of Thailand, and fuel up with a proper meal from one of the beachfront restaurants. Pad thai, fried rice, and fresh fruit shakes for under 150 THB will keep you going. Stock up on water and electrolytes — you will need them later. Most hostels and guesthouses sell neon body paint and UV accessories from around 50 THB.
Neon Paint, Sunset & Early Arrivals
From late afternoon, the energy shifts. Body paint stations line the street behind Haad Rin — get covered in neon and UV-reactive paint (100–200 THB for a full design). The beach bars start pumping music by 5pm and the first bucket drinks appear — whiskey, vodka, or rum buckets run 200–300 THB each. Watch the sunset from the beach as the crowd builds. By 8pm the sand is packed and the fire show performers begin warming up along the shoreline.
The Party — Fire Shows, Music Zones & Sunrise
The Full Moon Party runs from around 9pm until sunrise. Haad Rin Beach splits into distinct music zones — house and techno at one end, drum and bass in the middle, reggae and hip-hop at the other. Fire dancers perform along the beach with flaming skipping ropes, fire limbo, and spinning poi. The energy peaks between midnight and 3am when the beach holds 10,000–30,000 people. As the crowd thins toward dawn, the hardcore survivors gather at the southern end of the beach to watch the sunrise over the Gulf of Thailand — one of the most iconic moments in backpacker culture.
