Money-saving tips

Stay in Old Manali or Vashisht

Accommodation in Old Manali and Vashisht is significantly cheaper than the main town — rooms from 400-800 INR per night with mountain views. The village atmosphere is also more authentic and enjoyable.

Eat at backpacker cafes

Old Manali cafes serve huge meals at backpacker prices — thalis for 150-250 INR, banana pancakes for 100 INR. The competition keeps prices low and quality high.

Negotiate adventure prices

Paragliding, rafting, and other activities have no fixed prices. Compare quotes from multiple operators before booking and negotiate — off-peak discounts of 20-30% are common.

Use HRTC buses

Himachal Road Transport Corporation buses connect Manali to Kullu, Manikaran, Naggar, and Delhi at government-fixed rates far below private operators. The Volvo overnight bus to Delhi is excellent value.

Hot springs are free

The temple hot springs at Vashisht are free to use. The public bathhouse charges only 20-50 INR. No need for expensive spa treatments when natural hot sulphur springs are available.

Cook your own food

Many guesthouses have shared kitchens. Buy supplies from the market — local apples, bread, eggs, and vegetables — and cook simple meals to save on restaurant costs during longer stays.
