Daily costs per person in US dollars. Canggu is one of the world's best-value beach destinations — accommodation, food, and activities are remarkably affordable, though beach clubs and Western-style cafes inflate costs quickly.

Money-saving tips
Eat at warungs
Local warungs serve nasi goreng, nasi campur, and mie goreng for 20,000-35,000 IDR ($1.50-2.50) — a fraction of the cafe prices. The food is authentic, fresh, and filling. Warung Local is a Canggu institution.
Rent a scooter
Scooter rental (50,000-80,000 IDR/day) is essential in Canggu and much cheaper than taxis. Monthly rates drop to 700,000-1,000,000 IDR. Make sure you have an international driving permit and always wear a helmet.
Surf board rental not lessons
After your first lesson, rent boards independently (50,000-100,000 IDR for 2 hours). Lessons are 300,000-500,000 IDR — worth it for day one, but unnecessary after you can stand up and paddle out.
Happy hour deals
Many Canggu bars run happy hours (4-7pm) with 2-for-1 cocktails and discounted beers. Bintang (local beer) costs 25,000-35,000 IDR at warungs versus 60,000-80,000 at beach clubs.
Book accommodation monthly
If staying a week or more, negotiate weekly or monthly rates at guesthouses and villas. A private room that costs 300,000 IDR/night might drop to 150,000-200,000 IDR/night for monthly rental.
Skip the beach clubs
Beach clubs charge 200,000-500,000 IDR minimum spends. The public beaches are free, the sunsets are identical, and a Bintang from a warung costs a fraction of a beach-club cocktail.
